I dropped by the library since I was already in the vicinity at Jurong East. Main reason was to buy baking ingredients but it suddenly crossed my mind to look for a book which a teacher read to us in sec sch. In retrospect, that book really engaged us 3E1 girls but it's actually found in the juvenile fiction section (read: for kids) although it's not a picture book.
Strangely, the thought of the teacher didn't bring back fond memories. In fact, I will make sure (doubly sure) that I don't ever become such a teacher who didn't deserve to be in the education sector.
1) A teacher who cared about her students' results only because of how the results reflected her abilities.
2) A teacher who boasted on the 1st day that she produced many "A" students..
3) A teacher who advised her few weaker students to give up so that their "results wouldn't pull down the school's average." Yes those were her exact words unfortunately told to a 16 year old.
She was an educator who had the above 3 points all rolled into one. Congrats to her.
However, if there was 1 thing she succeeded in, that was to create an interest in me to read to students. She was a chemistry teacher but for some reason, she would bring the book Pippi Longstocking to class and at times when there was time, she would read a few pages to us. That gave us something to look forward to and I want my students to look forward to my lessons as well :).
Ok, enough of the past.
I'm sure I can finish this book fast and enjoy it in the process :DLabels: Books

I can't help it but my mind keeps drifting to the McSpicy I posted in the previous entry. I can practically smile the aroma of the spicy and crispy chicken fillet. Oh btw, to make it less sinful, do u know that it's actually very easy to tear off the skin on the chicken? It's the part that's under covered by the lettuce or on the other side.
Duh.
Anyway, someone please save me! Delivery is out. I found out only just now that McDelivery charges $3 now instead of the $2 and yet they never really publicized it. It just came to my knowledge when I was searching for the local McDonald's website and happen to chance upon a forum talking about food at McDonald's. Yeah, people actually leave comments on that.
Why? Why must McDonald's charge so much? To take advantage of us hungry souls in the middle of the night? Whose brains are too clouded by the hunger that our judgment on surcharges have been blurred?
Not me though.

My recent addiction: McSpicy.
Ok, it's not that first time I've been addicted to it. The strange thing about my eating habit is that for a period of time, I can eat and eat and eat the same thing again and again and again, making it a daily affair. Once I finally get sick of it, I move on to something else. Then some time later, could be months later... the cycle repeats itself.
However, I've realized that for this potently spicy (I dunno about you but it's the case for me..I can feel my stomach burning after consuming this innocent looking thing), it makes me go to the loo after that. The same goes for warm tea/coffee. Somehow these food have a laxative effect on me.
Enough of food. I got my shelf and drawer unit and haven't finished assemblying the latter which I arrogantly thought was chicken feet.
How wrong I was!
I've never perspired so much for such a long time. Just to fix.. screw.. knock.. and finally ta-da! I got myself a drawer unit! :D Oh, plus sweeping of the floor after that. Now I am looking at the 1.8m tall shelf with dread. I think I heard my muscles begging my mind not to be rash and over-ambitious in wanting to complete everything by today.
Nevertheless, it's been kind of fun and a sense of achievement came together with it :) However, I would like to caution you that if you were to ever buy something from ikea where everything comes in compact boxes and you get to choose self-assembly, I would advise you against it. If I'm not wrong, assembly by the ikea people is free. Unless you want to squeeze everything into your car or have fun with the pieces, it would be a wiser choice to leave it to the pros haha..Labels: Food

It wasn't as fantastic as I had hoped. Ok, in the first place, I didn't know what to expect either, just went with an open mind. However, it seemed like many things these days, just a touch and go process and I didn't even bother to try to be creative with my designs, given that we had limited time, limited icing colours (green and white only..) and limited albeit adorable little sprinkles in the shape of gingerbreadman, snowflakes and candy canes. All of us ended up with kind of similar end product.
However, more importantly, I would say was that I did manage to learn new stuff too :) So it's not totally a waste also. That's what the intention of taking up a course right? To learn a skill rather than to produce a fantastic end product on the first time. Probably takes more practice (ALOT more practice..). Somehow the teacher didn't even pay much attention to my work too. She probably didn't know what to say about my designs hahaha... Or perhaps my look was too serious during the piping process and it scared her ;P They were kind enough to give us each a packet of cupcake mix because we, 6 students were accomodating enough to allow the 7th person to join (this person mistakenly thought her slot was in the afternoon instead of in the morning...). More ppl means lesser attention from the trainer for each of us you see...
And nope, I didn't take pictures. Didn't bring my digicam (forgotten to actually) and I certainly wasn't impressed enough to take photos with the trainer.
The shop sells many pretty and exquisite stuff for baking though. Sprinkles in all shapes.. My favourite's definitely the gingerbreadman haha.. My beloved Gingy... Little little things which you never knew existed for sale in the baking world... they have them there! The shops abit ulu though.. being at Newton and not exactly that near the MRT station...
Got to try my newfound skill on a batch of cupcakes I'm going to make with the mix.
Want some? ;PLabels: Bake

My cupcake decorating course is...
Later in the day!
Kind of excited about it although the prospect of travelling all the way to Newton makes me cringe a little. Just a little. Good thing it's a once off thingie. However, since Singapore is so small, I guess it doesn't make sense not to learn something just because of the travelling time.
So many things that I wanna learn. I think life is too short for a person to be a master of many things. I suppose it's good enough if one is able to find ample time to even be a jack of all trades. To even be a "master of 1" can already be an overwhelming process in my humble opinion. Even then, it takes alot of time and practice to be considered a master in something because we're talking about progressing from one stage to another UPWARDS.
I'm a greedy person who gets bored easily so, many a times, I find myself being interested or excited about the prospect of learning several new things all at once. The only restriction is money and time of course. Learning new stuff also means investing in the tools & equipment, and even in course fees.
On ya, and I'm going to get new furniture for my bedroom this Sun! :D Happy happy! Hopefully my bedroom won't look so untidy after that though many a times more storage space means more junk collection too @_@
Another thing I found out several days ago is that there is going to be a second season for the lifestyle variety show called Jian Dan Jiu Shi Mei where the DJ Peifen is the so-called lead character!! So so glad to have this to look forward to though I don't know when it's going to be aired on TV since the filming in still ongoing in another country.Labels: Bake, Courses, TV Programmes

I find it so queer that they simply like to let this furry thing at home out in the morning despite my countless warnings that I CANNOT sleep with the incessant barking going on. The strange thing is this furry thing has a habit of barking at ppl passing by along the corridor ONLY when he's out of his room. So if we shut him in the bedroom, he's less likely to care when people make noise at the corridor.
Nothing goes into their mind. It's not the first time. Especially on days when I'm not working, can everyone please let me have my beauty sleep. Surely sleep is more impt than an unreasonable dog's freedom around the house. Eg: I could have slept for 10 hours or something to satisfy my mind and soul. Instead, I find myself waking up after 6 or 7 hours of sleep just because of barks. If I were the neighbours, I would also flare up. So I really don't blame them when they complain.

There's been so much controversy about teachers blogging that even when I have absolutely nothing to do in the staffroom, I try to refrain from blogging infront of other teachers. Am using one of the shared computers you see.. As a contract teacher, it seems like I do not have the privilege of owning a laptop for personal usage in school.
However, sometimes my fingers really itch to type. So here I am, typing an entry in school, which is a rarity.
Nothing beats meeting up with old friends whom you can grumble and crap with. I can hardly emphasize enough on that... Words pour out easily. I hate to make small talk, which explains why I may appear unfriendly to people I hardly know. To me, people with good PR are kind of fake. They can appear chummy with everyone, yet who knows what the person is actually thinking within. I don't suppose everyone can be best of friends with everyone else. These people make me uncomfortable.
My attempt to BAKE donuts failed terribly last week. They turned out to be like steamed rice cakes!!! :( So saddening especially when so much has been spent on the ingredients and mould. However, I can't expect all bakes to be perfect right? :D So I should be thankful that they were still edible. Haha..
Holidays are coming. That's the best part about working in this line. Things seem too good to be true so far, that it's kind of hard to believe and I refuse to let my guard down. One can't be too cautious about anything ;PLabels: Bake, Blogging

What do u get when u let a female human with a foul foul mood, loose at a shopping centre?
Splurging. And more splurging.
I finally bought the laneige products which I had been thinking of since forever. Just that I didn't have the heart to spend that much on stuff which could be used up. I don't think I even want to remember the total amount in my dreams tonight hahaha...
Hey but then, the salesgirl at Laneige counter at Tangs Vivocity had a shitty attitude. She was so distracted by her fellow colleagues chatting that she gave a frown when she couldn't catch what I was saying. Shouldn't I be the one frowning since I had to repeat my words? She was also hesitant about promoting her products, just standing there infront of me and giving short answers when I asked questions. Kept asking me if there's anything else. Stupid girl. Probably just another bimbo. With her attitude, I don't think she can meet the sales target. Her customers are all probably those who already want to buy the products.
Bought a skirt too from Forever 21. It's kind of chic. Too chic for work at school I think "-_- But it really looked good on me as it created an elongated silhouette :P
Well..
So long as I feel happy.
Bearing this in mind. I think it's really time for me to seek something from somewhere.Labels: Shopping

I bought my chocolate book today! Hope to make full use of it to create yummy desserts inclusive of nice decorations. It's such a useful book which includes conversions of measurements, main recipes and recipes for frostings and icings plus decorations with chocolates.
Best of all... Books at Borders were going for less 20% these 2 days :D
The wassants from Petit Provence at The Central were delicious~ They have a main branch too at Holland Village. Soft yet with a certain kind of bite to each one. Plus, a subtle chocolatey taste which doesn't overpower the taste of the bread. They're not cheap though with each going for 50 cents. Definitely worth a try!Labels: Books, Food
