I dropped by the library since I was already in the vicinity at Jurong East. Main reason was to buy baking ingredients but it suddenly crossed my mind to look for a book which a teacher read to us in sec sch. In retrospect, that book really engaged us 3E1 girls but it's actually found in the juvenile fiction section (read: for kids) although it's not a picture book.

Strangely, the thought of the teacher didn't bring back fond memories. In fact, I will make sure (doubly sure) that I don't ever become such a teacher who didn't deserve to be in the education sector.

1) A teacher who cared about her students' results only because of how the results reflected her abilities.

2) A teacher who boasted on the 1st day that she produced many "A" students..

3) A teacher who advised her few weaker students to give up so that their "results wouldn't pull down the school's average." Yes those were her exact words unfortunately told to a 16 year old.

She was an educator who had the above 3 points all rolled into one. Congrats to her.

However, if there was 1 thing she succeeded in, that was to create an interest in me to read to students. She was a chemistry teacher but for some reason, she would bring the book Pippi Longstocking to class and at times when there was time, she would read a few pages to us. That gave us something to look forward to and I want my students to look forward to my lessons as well :).

Ok, enough of the past.

I'm sure I can finish this book fast and enjoy it in the process :D
