I realized how fast prices of fast food is increasing. At LJS, in primary school (about pri 6), the supposedly cheapest choice (2 pc chicken) cost $2.90 but now it's $4.50, with the chicken pieces getting smaller too. Inflation sure is working hard. It may sound ok that within 14 years, it's increased by $1.60 but note that the rate at which the price is increasing is also increasing! Soon, it may not be that affordable to eat fast food anymore.

It's not just fast food that is getting more expensive. Even food at the foodcourt is costly too. If you're lucky, you can get noodles for $3. However, most will cost $3.50 and a canned drink maybe $1.40. So my lunch at Westmall foodcourt last week set me back by $4.90. So it's best to just bring plain water out hahaha....

If people are still being paid $5/hr for working temp. at an office (which was what I was getting after my "A" levels), a meal will cost you 1 hour of work. It's like working 1 hour just to pay for a meal. That is terribly sad.

The other day mum was telling me that banks used to pay really good bonuses and that's why people who work at banks in the past tend to be quite rich unlike now whereby bonuses can be quite pathetic. I can only conclude that we are born at the wrong time. Born at a time whereby the world faces crisis after crisis. Born at a time whereby people no longer care about anything anymore. That said, I guess we are still fortunate that we do not have to go through the horrors of the Japanese Occupation. Also, these days children are also more fortunate since their parents are more educated and hence more well-to-do. Luxuries like holidays, computers and enrichment lessons are showered upon them from a young age, as young as lower primary.

Perhaps ultimately, God is fair to all generations. People in the past were less educated so not many held high- paying jobs, much less could afford luxuries. However, these people did not have to worry about being retrenched too. They were content so long as they could afford to put food on the table. People these days are paid a lot more. Graduates earning more than what their parents could ever dream of earning. Yet, retrenchment and higher costs of living result in everything balancing up.

However, perhaps the world is getting more chaotic also because people are getting more evil. Why do we even need nuclear bombs? Tons of money is spent on weapons of mass destruction which may never be used (hopefully will never be used) at the expense of those living in poverty. I wonder how many more generations Earth can sustain.

We can probably count with our fingers.
